Origin
Mahamrityunjaya appears in the Rig Veda (7.59.12) and the Yajur Veda. It is the personal mantra of Lord Shiva.
The Mantra
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्। उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्॥
When to chant
- During illness or recovery
- For protection of the family
- On Mondays and Pradosh kaal
Recommended jaap
1,25,000 repetitions completes a full anushthan.
